The Arts Bridge Project: A Century of Song

What do Leonard Bernstein, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonius Monk, Lena Horne, Dean Martin and Jerome Robbins have in common? Well, for starters they were all born 100 years ago and they all changed the face of American music forever.

Marcus Center joins forces with the Florentine Opera & Milwaukee Ballet to present the first ever Arts Bridge Project. This unique concert will celebrate the musical offerings these celebrated artists gave to the world. Performers include Alyson Cambridge, Scott Coulter, Florentine Studio Artists, Milwaukee Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra, The Jamie Breiwick Quartet, Sista Strings, True Skool and students in the Marcus Center Arts Connect program.

Thelonious Monk and Dizzy Gillespie were two of the most influential Jazz musicians and composers of all time. The influence by these two giants of Jazz remains relevant and this unique collaboration will highlight their legendary impact that continues to resonate to this day.

SCOTT COULTER

For his work in cabaret, Scott Coulter has received five MAC Awards (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs), five Bistro Awards and two Nightlife Awards for Outstanding Vocalist and has performed at most of NYC’s top rooms including Birdland, 54 Below, The Oak Room at the Algonquin, and Feinstein’s at The Regency where he spent a record-setting eight months performing the revue 11 O’CLOCK NUMBERS AT 11 O’CLOCK which he also co-created, directed and musically arranged.

JAMIE BREIWICK QUARTET

A life-long native of South-Eastern Wisconsin, Jamie is an active trumpet player, composer, and educator. He has performed with such notable jazz artists as Arturo O’ Farrill, Adonis Rose, Ralph Bowen, Matt Wilson, Dan Nimmer, Joe Sanders, Matt Ulery, Francios Moutin, Pete Zimmer, Adam Larson, Rick Germanson, David Hazeltine, and David Bixler. Jamie has performed with Grammy nominated R & B artist Eric Benet, and was featured live in his recent music videos, “The Hunger” & “You’re the Only One”.

SISTASTRINGS

SistaStrings is a gospel influenced R&B flavored hip hop duo from Milwaukee, WI. Chauntee plays violin and adds vocals while Monique holds it down on the cello and vocal harmonies. The two have been playing and writing together since they were small children. How? Because they’re sisters. The Ross girls began their string journey at the ages of 4 and 6 years old and began taking lessons at the String Academy of Wisconsin.
