As the community’s performing arts center, the Marcus Center is fully committed to developing our audience to mirror the diversity of our community. The Center strives to offer a wide range of programming that builds a bridge to connect the varied audiences that we serve. Diversifying our programming brings multi-cultural audiences to the Marcus Center, and also provides our more traditional audiences with a greater appreciation for varied cultures.
Opening Our Doors is a program that does just that. It is designed to develop and engage audiences at the Marcus Center. This program reaches employees of local corporations that are a part of Employee Resource Groups, including Hispanic, African American, Middle Eastern, Asian, LGBT and Veterans. This year’s shows were Anything Goes and Motown The Musical, Anything Goes engaged the veteran community and Motown engaged the corporate african american employee resource groups from GE Healthcare, Northwestern Mutual and Johnson Controls. Last year’s shows were War Horse, EVITA and The Stooges Brass Band. Several groups from Johnson Controls, MillerCoors, Robert W. Baird and Northwestern Mutual were able to network at an exclusive pre-show or post show reception, as well as see the show.
Through this program, the Marcus Center strategically selects the various corporations that have existing Employee Resource Groups. These groups are chosen based on the aspect of diversity that may be a theme within a particular show that we are offering during a season.
Opening Our Doors is funded by Northwestern Mutual.
