Edo de Waart, conductor
Gerard McBurney, creative director and narrator
Presented in collaboration with UWM.
For one evening only, the Chicago Symphony's engaging Beyond the Score® program comes to town. Designed for classical music aficionados and newcomers alike, the first portion of the program offers a multimedia examination of Dvořák's Sumphony No. 9- it's context in history, how it relates to Dvořák's other works and the events in the compers's life that shaped its creation.
Learn how this symphony grew out of Dvořák's abandoned opera based on Longellow's Hiwatha epic. Plus, examine how this popular Symphony draws on Czech, American, African-American and Native American musical themes to create a culturally complex and stirring masterpiece. Then, experience the famed "New World" symphony performed live by our musicians, conducted by Edo de Waart.
