Cantos de las Americas provided
a wonderful celebration of culture, traditions,
folk, dancing, music, and learning as interpreted
by proud Milwaukee children. Cantos is a magnificent
journey exploring the glamour, rhythms, and
artistic talent that uniquely manifests a
glorious depiction of the most fundamental
elements in the formation of positive self-concept,
communal pride, and social cohesion. East
African dances, mariachis, bachatas, merengues,
Native American dances, contemporary American
Pops, traditional Spanish dancers, and much
more delighted the taste of the most
epicurean demands.
Fourteen Milwaukee Public Schools offered
great performances of national and international
choreographers. The event was sponsored by
the Marcus Center for the Performing
Arts in collaboration with the University
of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Division of Academic
Affairs, the Roberto Hernandez Center, the
Milwaukee Public Schools Bilingual Division,
the Council for Spanish Speaking Inc. and
WE Energies.
