Ballet ascends to unexpected levels in these three universal meditations of dance. Lila York’s popular Celts is a personal history of Ireland, blending Irish folk dancing with contemporary and award winning traditional Celtic music from The Chieftains.
In a complementary contrast, The Last Glass from Matthew Neenan features selections from Beirut, an indie-rock band reinventing the sounds of Balkan and Eastern Europe. In another twist, piano solos from Philip Glass and Dustin O’Halloran augment Alejandro Cerrudo’s choreography in Extremely Close.
